The 50 years since Gurdjieff's death saw the emergence of the New Age, a spiritual and cultural phenomenon which hoped to change the course of the world. Long before Gurdjieff had foreseen its arising and planted its esoteric seeds. Before his death he said the teaching should be spread far and wide but this was not to be. Into the breech quickly stepped L. Ron Hubbard and his Dianetics/Scientology soon followed by Timothy Leary's psychedelic crusade and the introduction of Eastern teachings such as Tibetan Buddhism. |
